Sinuses – Why do we have them?

Sinuses

While everyone else is starting the new year at the gym, I am starting it in bed (along with many others I am sure) with a sinus infection.  I have suffered from these nasty ailments for years and have always wondered what is a sinus and why do we have them?  According to http://www.webmd.com, sinuses are “air-filled cavities (spaces) located in your forehead, cheekbones, and behind the bridge of your nose” and when they become inflamed, they can cause discomfort and headaches. Yep. That’s definitely what they do. Anyone who has suffered a sinus infection know how miserable it can make you. It’s almost like a migraine in the fact that bright lights hurt your eyes and your head feels like it is about to explode at any moment.   I also tried researching WHY we have these cavities and guess what? No one seems to definitively know.  Some feel it could be to enhance our voices while others feel it is to help humidify or cleanse the air we breathe through our noses. . But I ask you, do you know why we have these  pesky cavities?  Any home remedies you have that I can try?  To all my fellow sickies, feel better  and have a happy and healthy 2013!

Cowboys vs Indians – oh the irony!

Last night, the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Washington Redskins in a championship game. As I was watching the game and the fans dressed up like Native Americans, my blood started to boil . I am truly appalled that there is a national team called the REDSKINS.  This was a derogatory terms used many years ago against Native Americans.  I find it very ironic that the team is based in Washington DC, our nation’s capital, and the place of the signing of so many treaties that were either broken or neglected.  Why is this allowed to go on?  If there was any other racial name for a team, there would be hell to pay, but because it’s against Native Americans, we ignore it or simply don’t care.  Although I am a Cowboys fan, I am glad that the Redskins won last night. Now, if only they can win the fight to have their land, identities and dignity back…that would be a REAL win.
